The Heti Alliance aims to prepare Ethiopian University and TVET students for lifelong economic and employment opportunities. The Alliance partners with other other organizations that are part of Ethiopia's teriary education ecosystem, including Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor and Skills, as well as local CSOs, NGos and international funding agencies

Samara University is one of the second generation Universities in Ethiopia, which was established in 1999 E.C/2006/07 G.C. The University is located in Samara town, Afar region of Ethiopia, the cradle of mankind. Now after fifteen years of its foundation, it was differentiated as an applied science university by MoSHE. Learn more

Jimma University was founded on the amalgamation of the Jimma Institute of Health Science and the Jimma College of Agriculture in the 1980’s. Both institutions had been national leaders in their respective fields, and with the merger, the development of a new, multifaceted and development oriented institution was able to emerge from the two former specialty institutions. Throughout the 1990’s Ethiopia as a nation was determined to overcome the significant development challenges facing the country. Such challenges were found in all sectors of society and in all regions. With international partners from the University of Oklahoma in the United States, Jimma University’s parent institution the Jimma College of Agriculture was founded to address matters of agriculture in the 1960’s. Jimma University has hosted partners from all around the world for decades. Such long term partners include foreign teaching staff from India and the Philippines, Cuban doctors and development professionals, American and European doctors and public health professionals, and Asian development partners from South Korea, Japan and China. Foreign partners often regard Jimma University as a unique, yet little known major institution of research and higher education. Jimma University is in a critical development stage, and with the physical and programmatic development of the institution, the goal of becoming a globally collaborative and competitive university which produces the highest quality academic and research output yearly will surely be achieved. Learn more

Debre Berhan University is one of the second generation universities established in 2007 in Debre Berhan town. In the new differentiation the university is categorized as applied university. With the efforts of the university community, DBU envisions to become one of the best applied universities producing chosen graduates and community problem solving through indigenous knowledge and scientific ways in Ethiopia. Learn more

Wollo University is located at Dessie in the Amhara region of South Wollo, Ethiopia, and is one of the recently founded universities in 2005. The University has two campuses, one at Dessie and the other at Kombolcha towns. The Dessie campus consists of College of Natural Sciences, College of Agriculture, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Social Science and Humanities, School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Law and Institute of Teacher Education and Pedagogical Science. Learn more

Bahir Dar University was established by merging two former higher education institutions; namely the Bahir Dar Polytechnic and Bahir Dar Teachers’ College. The Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute, which has transformed itself into Technology and Textile institutes, was established in 1963 under the technical cooperation between the Government of USSR and the Imperial Government of Ethiopia. Learn more

Hawassa University (HU) is one of the first-generation universities in Ethiopia whose establishment was laid as Awassa College of Agriculture (ACA) in 1976 with the admission of 217 students. It was later restructured and promoted to a university in 2000, named “Debub University” with the merger of ACA and two other colleges in southern Ethiopia: Wondogenet College of Forestry and Natural Resources, established in 1978; and Dilla College of Teachers’ Education and Health Sciences, established in 1996. Learn more

Jigjiga University is one of the public higher institutions that was founded in March 2007, along with the Second-Generation universities in Ethiopia. It is located in the emerging town of Jigjiga the capital city of Ethiopian Somali regional state, 635 kilometers away from Addis Ababa. The University officially started its service with 712 students, 66 and 99 administrative in three faculties in 2007. Learn more
